It’s Never Too Cold for Cake
Cold fronts are sweeping through the Cape. Chilly winds are blowing in Gauteng, and morning temperatures are plummeting to 0° in some parts of South Africa. It’s c..c..cold out there, cake lover! Keeping warm is the order of the day – wearing your woolliest clothes, chasing the sunny spots around the house, lighting the fire in the evening and eating hot meals is the way to do it.
If it’s really cold where you live and you feel like snow on the Berg is the culprit, then you are likely to have a tasty stew simmering on the stove or a delicious curry in the slow cooker. To complement these hearty meals, we have an easy answer: our decadent self-saucing puddings will add a finishing, tummy-warming touch to any dinner. Visit one of our welcoming outlets and choose a selection of these pudding delights to take home. Cape Malva Pudding with apricot jam and a rich toffee sauce, moist chocolatey Hot Mud Pudding with a gooey cocoa sauce or the Chocolate Volcano with a molten (half a slab of chocolate!) centre. Did you know that our Chocolate Volcanoes come in a 6-pack? Order yours online and pop them in the oven, and voilà, dessert is ready – no fuss, no prep, just a lot of warmth and smiles for miles!
Did you know that for snow to fall cloud temperatures need to drop below freezing point, which causes water vapour in the atmosphere to condense directly into ice without going through the liquid phase? Once ice crystals have formed, they absorb and freeze additional water vapour from surrounding air and grow into snow crystals. When they are heavy enough, snowflakes fall to Earth. Isn’t nature unique?
How about following the aroma of freshly brewed coffee to your local Château Gâteaux store and, while you watch the passing show, choose a creamy Cappuccino or a full-bodied Espresso to warm you instantly from the inside out. Team up your hot drink with a rich Boston Brownie or Apple Crumble Tart, which you can ask to be served warm. If you make your visit during the winter school holidays, remember we have Kiddyccinos for the little ones – a toasty, roasty treat for everyone.
Frost is another form of freezing which interests us. Here, a thin layer of ice forms from water vapour in an atmosphere above 0° which then comes into contact with a solid surface like a leaf, whose temperature is below freezing. The vapour changes to ice as it reaches freezing point. The result is spectacularly pretty with leaves, branches, rooftops, fences and more, outlined or covered in beautiful furry, icy crystals.
Like the frost outside, frosting covers and layers cakes in spectacularly delicious flavours. Château Gâteaux has perfected the art of creating frostings and shares them with love. Our Cookie Dough Baked Cheesecake is topped with choc chip cookie dough frosting – taste the taaaste. It’s yum. For our party trick, we have created a milk-flavoured cream cheese frosting which tops our Piñata Birthday Cake in swirls of deliciousness – perfect for your child’s next birthday – or any family birthday on the horizon!! Lemon Cream Cheese frosting is layered in our Southern Red Velvet Cake and spread throughout our Swiss Carrot Cake – moist, decadent and moreish. And last but not least, have you ever eaten a caramel cream cheese frosting? If not, you are in for a treat with our Caramel Velvet Cake which is caramel heaven. We’ll see you online or in-store as you select any of these heartwarming and delicious cakes of ours.
It might be too cold for words outside, but it’s never too cold for cake.
