Life In Colour
With Spring outside the window showing us bright shiny green leaves, bright flowers in all their glory and pale pink blossoms on the fruit trees, we decided to explore the vitally important role colour and colouring in plays in our world. Join us on this vibrant journey, Cake Lover as we explore life in full colour!
We all coloured in during our childhood. Remember the smell of wax crayons and when you used them they filled in a shape in an instant with bright colour. If you pressed too hard, then the crayon snapped. Never mind, you just peeled off the paper and used the blunt end to carry on colouring. Little did you know that this fun activity helped you focus, developed your hand strength and fine motor control, and encouraged self-expression and creativity. Get creative and colour in a Château Gâteaux cake – using sprinkles, flowers, jelly tots, fruit, chocolate shavings, spun sugar and plenty more! Our gorgeous candles are the perfect finishing touch!
As you grew older, you graduated to a beautifully slim tin of pencil crayons – all of them lying in their own little groove within the tin, their points as sharp as sharp could be. They came in an array of shades for each colour - from light blue to dark, from bright lemon yellow to golden ochre. You couldn’t wait to start using them to colour in the exciting pictures in your book, bringing them to life, especially that party pic with a birthday cake, icing dripping down the sides, candles, balloons and presents. If you want an array to choose from, Château Gâteaux has a wondrous selection of cakes (and candles too), perfect for a birthday. From a very young age, colour can influence our thinking. It can change how we act, soothe our eyes, affect our appetite, and raise our blood pressure. Colour is a powerful form of communication – green means ‘go’, and blue is for baby boys. What product do you think of when shown the colour red? Our deliciously moist Southern Red Velvet cake with lemon cream cheese frosting comes to mind!
The psychology of colour is powerful. Think about what colour makes you happy. What about your favourite colour, or the colour that brings out your eyes? And the colours you find appealing to paint the inside and outside of your home? The colour you chose for your car or the colour of your hair. Colour influences so much of what we do in our daily lives.
Some of us are still colouring in as adults for stress relief or a moment of relaxation. Colouring can relax the restless mind and induce the same state as meditating, creating mindfulness and quietness - just what you need after a long day of activity or work. What you also need after a long day is a comforting cup of tea and a flavoursome little something from our mini collection – some me-time, yes!
Teenagers also face stress in their daily lives. They worry about friends, family, tests, extra-mural activities, appearances, etc. It does not seem much to an adult, but teenagers have not yet developed their coping mechanisms for stress. Even though they want to ‘chill’ out in front of the TV or play a video game, these activities do not relax the brain, but colouring in does the trick. Studies have shown that less than an hour of colouring has a cortisol lowering effect on individuals – creating calmness, and focus.
So, sharpen your pencil, dear reader, create mindful, colourful moments which you can share with a special someone and a palette of beautiful cake creations and flavours from Château Gâteaux.
